Data We Collect
Recall AI stores the following data on your device:
- Audio recordings (.caf files)
- Text transcripts generated from those recordings
- Consent logs documenting when permission was confirmed
- PDF session reports
Recall AI does not operate its own servers and does not transmit your data to Recall AI or Black Mirror Lab. However, transcription is powered by Apple's Speech Recognition service — see the Third-Party Services section below for full details.
How Your Data Is Used
Audio recordings are used solely to generate text transcripts and PDF reports. Transcription is performed by Apple's Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer), which is built into iOS. Apple processes your audio on-device when on-device models are available for your selected language. When on-device processing is not available — for example, for certain languages or on older devices — Apple's framework may transmit audio to Apple's servers for transcription. This processing by Apple is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
We do not use your audio or transcripts for any purpose other than generating your session transcript.
Data Storage & Retention
All recordings, transcripts, and PDF files are stored in your device's local storage. You control retention through the app's auto-delete setting and the Files section. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data from your device.
Third-Party Services
Recall AI uses the following third-party services:
-
Apple Speech Recognition (Apple Inc.) — Recall AI uses iOS's built-in
SFSpeechRecognizerAPI to transcribe audio. What data is sent: voice audio from your recording session. Who receives it: Apple Inc. When: when on-device speech models are unavailable, iOS may route audio to Apple's servers. You can enable On-Device Only mode in Recall AI Settings to prevent any server-side processing (transcription may be unavailable for some languages in this mode). Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. - Apple App Store — subscription billing and payment processing, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
We do not use any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services that collect personal data. Your audio is never shared with any party other than Apple's Speech Recognition service as described above.
Your Rights
You can delete individual recordings or all app data at any time from within the app. You can disable transcription at any time in:
iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Speech Recognition › Recall AI
Recording Consent
Recall AI is designed exclusively for recordings where all parties have given explicit, informed consent. You are solely responsible for understanding and complying with the recording consent laws in your jurisdiction. Recording laws vary by country and region — many require the consent of all parties.
Children's Privacy
Recall AI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date below. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
